Sound artist, composer, vocalist Alessandra Eramo and artist, writer and theorist Brandon LaBelle initiated the Asocial Telepathic Ensemble during the Covid-19 Lockdown in 2021.

This international collaborative work of sound culture brings together eleven composers, sound artists, curators, writers, and performers who simultaneously switched on their recording devices on 21 March 2021 for 15 minutes in a globe spanning telepathic recording session, documenting their thoughts, habits or audio surroundings, in an attempt to connect with each other. No editing was done.

The result is a very intimate glimpse into a moment of self isolation which has been experienced globally. Each recording is a strong poetic approach to daily routine and deals with communicating with artificial voices, loneliness, yearning for travelling or being bored. But these artistic statements are also talking about hope, transforming tragedy into irony, accepting bodily and mental fragility during the pandemic and beyond.

Some praise…

” (…) The Asocial Telpathic Ensemble range from (sound) poetry to field recordings and improvised music, but are above all to be understood as discreet parts of a single “telepathic” and ergo jointly created composition. It’s an ambitious work that connects the inner world of the participants with the outer world – far beyond those 15 minutes in March 2021.”
— Field Notes (DE)

” (…) a poetic declaration of how art never becomes extinct, especially in moments of great difficulty, it always finds a way to affirm new spaces of hope. (…) Corvo Records is not new to publishing unusual and conceptual works: sound poetry and improvisation releases are typical of this label. For this release, label owner Wendelin Büchler has contributed a unique artwork and everything is packaged in an elegant pink box with two cassettes. The hypothetical ability to communicate with the mind has never been scientifically proven, but here any rational intent is relegated thanks to the desire of a special community of artists and audio experimenters to connect and to share.”

Reviews

The Asocial Telepathic Ensemble is a collective founded in 2021 during the Covid-19 lockdowns. For their first release, founding members Alessandra Eramo and Brandon LaBelle, are joined by James Webb, Florence Cats, Lucia Udvardyova, Ambra Pittoni, Ines Lechleitner, Korhan Erel, Israel Martinez, Thea Farhadian and Ricarda Denzer. On March 21st, 2021, all eleven individuals simultaneously turned on their recording devices for fifteen minutes in a global recording session, documenting their thoughts, habits and audio surroundings. No changes were made during the editing phase: the various compositions were untouched, an intimate act but also one of collective presence and a poetic declaration of how art never becomes extinct, especially in moments of difficulty, it finds a way to affirm new spaces of hope. Self-isolation and the erosion of normal habits due to the pandemic has obviously influenced the tone of this collection, however, this does not affect too much the self-reflective vocation of the individual works. Four tracks are left ‘raw’, while the remaining ones have had more voices and electronic and acoustic instruments added. Corvo Records is not new to publishing unusual and conceptual works: sound poetry and improvisation releases are typical of this label. For this release, label owner Wendelin Büchler has contributed a unique artwork and everything is packaged in an elegant pink box with two cassettes. The hypothetical ability to communicate with the mind has never been scientifically proven, but here any rational intent is relegated thanks to the desire of a special community of artists and audio experimenters to connect and to share.
